Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Samuel Reuben Payne announce his passing on September 1st, 2025 at the Corner Brook Long-Term Care in his 81st year, with Joy and Pam by his side.

He will be sadly missed by his special niece: Joy (Morley Payne) and their girls: Robyn, Felicia (Wayne), and Candace (Johnny) who he cherished like his own; his caregiver and special friend: Pam McCarthy, whose kindness, compassion, and care for Uncle Sam will never be forgotten, there are no words to express how much you are dearly loved and appreciated; his brothers: Baxter, and Brendan (Norma), and their mother: Anita; and sisters-in-law: Helen Humber, and May Perry; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Sam was predeceased by his wife: Louise, the great love of his life; parents: Matilda and Samuel Payne; mother and father-in-law: Henry and Mary Humber; brother: Wheeler Perry; brothers and sisters-in-law: Clarence and Margaret Perry, Donald and Bessie Perry, Christopher and Viola Perry, William "Bill" and Lily Perry, Stan and Maud House, and Henry Humber; his nephew: Kevin Perry; and his special friend and care giver: Tony McCarthy.

Sam worked as a social worker for 33 years, and retired in 2000. He was a member of the Corner Brook Masonic Lodge, the Milley Chapter, Past Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of NL, and the Mazol Shriners. Sam was also a member of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

In following Sam's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation taking place on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Friday, September 5th, 2025 at the St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church with Rev. Mickton officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted, or a memorial donation can be made in Sam's memory to the Mazol Shriners Travel Fund, or a charity of one's choice.

The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Corner Brook Long-Term Care-3 NORTH Unit; you are all truly the most amazing individuals whose kindness and compassion were greatly appreciated, and will never be forgotten. We were truly blessed to have your care and support during the time Uncle Sam lived with you. We are grateful for all you are and all you do.
