Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roderick (Rod) Walter Osmond announce his passing at Western Longterm Care in Corner Brook NL. at the age of 77 years on September 11, 2025.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his beloved wife of 56 years: Shirley; children; Paula Stagg (David), and Kristy Osmond; grandchildren: Matthew Stagg (Ricki-Lee Kelly), Julia Stagg (Brendon Campbell), and Chaytor Brake; great-grandchild; Andy Stagg; his siblings: Seveson Osmond (Marilyn), Wayne Osmond (Mary), and Gary Osmond (Anne); and daughter-in-law; Loretta Pike; a well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Rod was predeceased by his son; Craig Osmond (2023); his parents; Gordon and Dinah Osmond; and his sister: Lori Osmond.

How does one put into words the life of a son, brother, husband, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend. Rod was all of these and much more. We lost the person he was a few years ago to mixed vascular-frontal dementia. He remembered everyone and many things but in the past few years he lived in his own reality.

He was well known as a car salesman for D&M Motors selling Volkswagen. He achieved top 10 salesperson in Canada twice. The first award was given in Barbado's, the second in Jamacia- Paula cried so much, he took her and Craig with them. He eventually transitioned to Humber Motors Ford where he worked for 30 years, and he achieved the summit award. He gave his family a good life and they never did without.

Rod loved to entertain, his home and beloved cabin in Spruce Brook were open to everyone. If he was having a gathering, you need not bring anything, all was provided. He learned to play guitar….he played "Storms Never Last" so much, Kristy sent him to the basement to practice, saying "daddy, don't play that storms never last no more, go down the basement"…..and he did! He was a master at the BBQ but he was even better at Ping Pong……I dare you to beat him! He looked forward to winter so he could go to Burnt Hill Lakes, Lewis Hills, Star Lake, and of course…. "The Brook".

He loved adventure. He water-skied, down-hill skied, and parasailed to name a few.

Again, how does one put a life into words? I tried.

At Rod's request cremation has take place. There will be a visitation taking place at Country Haven Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 16th, 2025 from the hours of 7-9 PM, from where the funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025 in the Country Haven Chapel with Rev. Mickton officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, no flowers by request, instead a donation may be made in Rod's memory to a charity of one's choice.

The family wishes to extend a very heart felt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Corner Brook Long-Term Care Center, and the Western Long-Term Care, for all the care and support provided to our dear father during his time of need.

The Funeral will be live streamed on Country Haven Funeral Home's Facebook page.
