Phyllis Simmons-Graveside
Service
November 18, 1929 – February 15, 2024
There will be a graveside service taking place at Mount Patricia Cemetery on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at 11 AM, where both Phyllis and Eugene will be laid to rest, with Rev. Jon van Vliet officiating.
Phyllis Simmons (nee Rowe) passed peacefully away on February 15th, 2024 in the presence of her family, in her 95th year.
Predeceased by her husband Eugene Simmons, son Paul, parents George and Lillian Rowe, sisters Grace (Gerald Betterman), Shirley, and daughter in law Tana Simmons.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories of a life well lived are sons George (Anne) and Gerry (Elaine), Granddaughters Elizabeth (Chris) of Alberta, Krista (Michael) of Grand Falls and Catherine (Danny) of Bryant's Cove. Three great grandchildren, Clarie, Jack and Grayson and niece Michelle Davis. Phyllis was a strong and independent lady with a fierce determination to live life to the fullest. While a long time resident of Corner Brook, she would often remark that the best years of her life were those spent at their cabin in Spruce Brook where she and her husband Eugene resided for 30 years. She loved the outdoors and time spent snowmobiling and ice fishing. It was her happy place which she spoke of often. Phyllis loved to knit and crochet but her talent for rug hooking was exceptional and many of her larger pieces are proudly displayed at her children's homes. While these pieces are a work of art, she was very modest about her work and thought they were average at best.
Thank you to our extended family and friends who called often with words of encouragement and concern. A special thank you to Judy and Vince for their regular visits and kindness shown to our mother over the years. We appreciate the care provided by Dr Lafferty and the entire team at the palliative care unit at Western Memorial Hospital.
A special thank you to Elaine who provided unwavering care to her mother in law over the years and loved her as her own. Our mother often remarked that Elaine was the daughter she never had.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road, Corner Brook on Monday, February 19, 2024 1:30PM - 4PM with Service to follow at Country Haven Funeral Home on Monday, February 19, 2024 at 4PM with Rev. Jocelyn Cook officiating. Interment to take place at a later date where Phyllis and Eugene will be reunited.
In lieu of flowers donations in Phyllis's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
