It is with great sadness that the family of the late Milton Barrett Burden announce his passing on August 22, 2026, at the age of 90 years.
Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife of 65 years, Margaret; his children, Glenn (Jacquie) and Dianne (Stephen); his beloved grandchildren, Katie and Matthew; family pet, Shiloh; brother-in-law, Charlie Burden; sister-in-law, Madalyn Wentzell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Milton was predeceased by his parents, Hayward and Lillian Burden; his siblings, Amos Lundrigan (Blanche), Valerie Pike (Steven), Bessie Burden, Donald Burden (Minnie), Douglas Burden, Ralph Burden (Jean), Emma Taylor (Joseph), and Marigold Burden; his parents-in-law, Sandy and Pearl Parsons; brothers-in-law, Ralph Parsons (Martha) and Angus Wentzell, and sister-in-law, Gerry Dollimount (Arch).
Born in Curzon Village, Bonne Bay, NL, Milton began his working life with Canadian National Telegraph, where he was employed at American repeater stations in St. John’s, Clarenville, Howley and Corner Brook. His career later took a new direction when he became a social worker, a profession he practiced for 33 years. Over the decades, he served communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador before settling in Corner Brook. Milton took great pride in his work and valued the opportunity it gave him to make a difference in the lives of others.
Above all, Milton was a devoted and caring husband who shared a lifetime of love, companionship and family with his wife, Margaret. He was equally dedicated to his role as a father and grandfather, taking an active part in the lives of his children and grandchildren and finding deep happiness in being with them. He treasured the time they spent together, whether camping during the summer, skating in the winter, or enjoying the many simple outings and activities that became cherished family memories. Generous with his time and always willing to help, Milton could be counted on whenever his family needed him. His love was shown not only in words, but in the countless everyday ways he cared for those closest to him.
Milton will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet strength, and the genuine care for those around him. His steady presence, giving heart and deep devotion to his family touched the lives of those who knew and loved him, leaving memories that will remain with them forever.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion shown to Milton during his final days. The comfort and support they provided to both Milton and our family will never be forgotten. We also extend our sincere thanks to the nursing staff of 3 North at Corner Brook Long-Term Care for the warmth and thoughtful care they showed Milton during his short time there. We are deeply grateful to our family physician, Dr. Peter Callahan, for his many years of dedicated care and support, and especially thankful to Karen Young for her kindness and the invaluable assistance she provided in helping to care for Milton at home during his illness.
In accordance with Milton’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday August 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Patricia Cemetery, United Church section.
Mit, you were so deeply loved. We will miss you more than words can ever say.
