It is with great sadness that the family of the late Michael James Newman announce his passing at the palliative care unit in Corner Brook, NL on July 8, 2023, at the age of 81.
Mike leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife of 61 years: Frances; sons: Jim (Fronie), and Paul (Lucy); daughters: Mary, Deceased (Roger), Sandra (Bob), and Vicki (Paul).
Grandchildren: Paula (Chris), Alisha (Mike), Amanda, Michael, Natasha (Jarrod), Michael, Nikki, Kyle (Kylie), Jesse, Jenny, Nicole (Sean), Melanie (Barry), Robbie, Steven (Katelyn), and Ronnie Boone; and 18 great grandchildren; brother: Felix (Shirley); and sisters: Marie, Theresa (Dave), and Maureen; brothers-in-law: Ron Greene, (Bride, deceased) and Joe Connolly; sisters-in-law: Eileen Companion (Park), Mercedes Christopher (Steve, deceased), and Genevieve Green; and a special friends: Garland Greene and Clara Gillingham. Mike also leaves a large circle of other relatives, and many friends.
Mike was predeceased by his mother: Mary Newman; father: James Newman; and step-father: Fred Bernard; father-in-law: Dan Green; mothers-in-law: Violet Green and Catherine Park; brothers: Frank Newman (Marie), and Freddy Newman; brothers-in-law: George Green, and Dom Green (Barb); sisters-in-law, Rita Connolly, Delores Green, Mary Jones (Kevin), and Flossy Newman; and niece, Marilyn Ann Newman.
Mike was a devoted & loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was well loved by everyone who met him and was able to make anyone smile with his witty and delightful personality. Mike was a very handy man who was able to fix anything he put his hands on. He especially enjoyed woodworking and painting. Mike was always up for an adventure and anyone who went along knew to be prepared to end up anywhere on the hunt for an apple pie. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and will always be remembered as a man who loved well, and was well-loved.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the Stroke Ward at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital and Palliative Care Unit. Friends and family may visit Country Haven Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on July 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Our Lady Star of the Sea church in Benoit's Cove with Father Ed Terry officiating.
If desired as an expression of sympathy, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice or Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.
