Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lydia Ruth announce her passing on Monday, July 7th, 2025 at her private residence in Irishtown-Summerside, at the grand age of 98 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her loving daughter: Jacqueline "Jackie" Lundrigan; her sister-in-law: Blanche Ruth; and a very large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Lydia was predeceased by her husband: Howard Ruth (2005); grandson: Ryan Lundrigan; son-in-law: Bill Lundrigan; sister: Don Strickland (Bill); brothers: Willie Ruth (Marion), and Bud Ruth; father: John Penney; her mother and her step-father: Effie and Wallace Ruth; father-in-law: George Ruth; mother-in-law: Susie; step-mother-in-law: Edith; sisters-in-law: Jacqueline Penney (Myrden), Margaret Davis (Jack), and Ena Taylor (Dick); and her brothers-in-law: Rex Ruth (Hilda), and Joe Ruth (Eunice).

Lydia worked at the Co-op store in Corner Brook for 25 years, and made many friends during her time there; whom she kept in touch with over the years. She was a wonderful cook and a marvelous baker who enjoyed feeding her family and friends. She was always sending batches of buns, cookies, or cake to everyone for their birthdays, illnesses, or just because she knew that person loved that particular baked good. She loved her Seniors 50 Plus Club and enjoyed going to the meetings and different functions they held. Over the last few years, she wasn't able to go as often as she would like, but she made a point to go whenever she could.

There will be a visitation taking place on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, from where the funeral service will be taking place at 2 PM on Thursday, July 10th, 2025 at the St. Paul's Anglican Church, Summerside, with Rev. Terry Loder officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Lydia's memory to your local SPCA.
