Lucia Stefania
Falc
December 4, 1923 – May 11, 2024
Lucja (Lucy) Stefania Falc (née Pogodzinska), a cherished centenarian who graced this world with her remarkable life, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home on May 11, 2024 at the age of 100 years old. Born on December 4, 1923 in Żmuda, Poland, Lucy lived a life of purpose and grace, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. A survivor of World War II concentration camps, she exemplified incredible resilience which was evident through her many wartime stories that she shared. Her photographic memory and sweet personality were inspirational to all who knew her. After the war, Lucy went on to own her own flower shop and villa in Poland before marrying her husband and moving to Canada in 1968. She lived in Labrador City for 46 years, was a member of the Legion (Branch 47) and worked as a renowned chef before retiring in the early 1990s. In 1998, while still in Labrador City, she became an integral part of Nancy and Victor Hann's life when they offered to care for her and she very graciously and thankfully accepted. By 2014, they invited her to move to Summerside, Newfoundland to live with them. Those were some of the happiest years of her life, surrounded daily by their unending love and care. Lucy loved to participate in the weekly pokeno card games and the numerous family celebrations held at the Hann household. It wasn't long before she had a large extended family who fell in love with her and visited with her often. She also cherished visits from her step-granddaughter Rachel (British Columbia). Lucy is predeceased by her father Władysław, her mother Marianna, her sisters Helena and Anna, her brother Bołek, her half-sister Jelena, her husband Jerry, her step-son Richard, and her step-grandson Christopher. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her very dear friends Nancy and Victor Hann, her step-granddaughter Rachel, step-great-granddaughter Amy, and the many, many cherished friends that she loved and who loved her back. Special thanks to the nursing staff angels on Partridgeberry Place (4th Floor) in Corner Brook Long Term Care for the love and attention that they not only consistently showed to Lucy but also showed to everyone who visited and spent time with her, especially Nancy & Victor. A very heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you! Deep appreciation and thanks to Father Terry, who frequently visited with Lucy and provided her with prayer and communion. Lucy was devout in her belief of the Lord and her visits with Father Terry were some of her most treasured times. At Lucy's request, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation for family and friends at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 County Road, on Wednesday, May 29th at 1:00pm, with a celebration of her life to follow at 2:00pm. As expressions of Sympathy, donations can be made in Lucy's memory to the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility. Interment to take place at a later date.
