“May your seas be calm, and your catch plentiful, and may the Polly B’s tanks always full.”
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lloyd Joseph Hickey announce his passing after a courageous battle with illness, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on August 16th, 2026, at the age of 70 years. Lloyd passed peacefully with his devoted partner, Grace, right by his side.
He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, his loving partner: Grace Davis; daughters: Lorilynn (Andrew Young), and Sonya Strickland-Dupont (Kevin); his chosen son: Jesse Hickey (Madison Hackett), he was so proud of the skipper you’ve become!; grandchildren: Shelby (Cady), McKenzie (Cody), Rylee (Cole), Jacob (his special buddy), Destiney, Callie, and Landon; as well as his brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many, many friends.
Lloyd was predeceased by his parents: William and Clara Hickey; brothers and sister: Cyril, Lester, Bill, Howard, and Philomena; nephew: Shawn Hickey; and his great-nephew: Rylan.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital for taking such special care of Lloyd during his time of need. Particularly Dr. Wadhwa, the Cancer Care Clinic team, Palliative Care-Pain Management Team, and to the paramedics who have been so compassionate throughout his journey.
A very special thank you goes out to Michael Joyce (Skipper of the Polly B) and his crew for taking Lloyd out for his final voyage, and for honouring his final wish to return to the water. Your kindness has meant the world to us. To Danny Joyce; thank you for your unwavering care and compassion you had shown to Lloyd; it was never gone unnoticed.
Last, but certainly not least, a very big thank you to Chris Hollett (Amelia), and Connie Gillam (Blaine) for your endless support. You are some of the greatest neighbours and friends we could have asked for.
In following Lloyd’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation taking place for family and friends on Friday, August 28th, 2026 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 5-7 PM, from where the funeral service will take place at 7 PM in the Country Haven Chapel with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Lloyd’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
