It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lillian Jude O’Connell announce her sudden passing on September 6th, 2026 in St. John’s, NL, at the age of 66 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her children: Lena (Walter), and Grant; grandchildren: Blake, and Brody; her siblings: Pius (Linda), Ligouri (Kathy), Amanda (Darren), Cindy (Rick), Kelly, Felix, Mary (David), Danny, Alphonsus Jr. (Debbie), and Stella (John); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Jude was predeceased by her parents: Alphonsus Sr. and Rita O’Connell; sisters: Neila, Debbie, and Gloria; nephew: Joey; and her two brothers-in-law: Howard, and Peter.
Life did not make things easy for Jude. She was handed storms when she needed shelter, and steep mountains when she was already tired. She faced many mental health struggles that tried to dim her light, whisper lies of defeat, and convince her that she was weak. But she was never weak. Surviving the invisible war inside of her own mind takes strength that most people will never know. Every single day she chose to stay, to try and to breathe through the pain and that was victory. Even on the days when shadows felt too loud, her spirit shined through in small beautiful ways.
She gave the world a front-row seat to endurance. She taught us that being human means breaking and healing over and over again, and still finding the courage to care, laugh, and to love.
Her story is not defined by the hardships she endured; it is defined by the fierce grace with which she faced them and the impact of her courage remains.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no formal visitation or funeral service at this time. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, a donation can be made in Jude’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
