It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to Lewis Samson - husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother.
Born in Glovertown, Lew grew up in old Gander, across from the air base. After furthering his education in St. John's, Lew worked at the Royal Bank. Showing his skills, he soon became the bank manager in Trinity. From there, he spent fifteen years with the Newfoundland and Labrador Development Corporation in St. John's and Corner Brook. Done working behind a desk, Lew and his wife Dawn took over the dairy bar at the Millbrook Mall before running the restaurant at the CN bus terminal in Corner Brook.
Wherever he went, Lew made friends by the boatload. His constant humour and take-life-as-it-comes attitude drew people to him, and once in, they never left. For his 75th birthday, hundreds crowded into the Lions Club in Curling to help him celebrate. Lew enjoyed a good game of cards, especially 120s with the 50-plus club. Lew loved being in the woods and out at the cabin. He was equally happy with his hand on a fishing rod or the throttle of his skidoo. There was no project too daunting for him to take on - from odd jobs around the house to building his cabins. At home, he had no problem doing dishes or cleaning house - so much so, some of his male friends told Lew to take it down a notch, he was making them look bad!
Lew will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 36 years Dawn, his three children, Paul of Ottawa, Roger (Karen Bulmer) of Middle Cove and Andrea of Dunedin, New Zealand and his grandchildren, Marley Samson (Ottawa), Daniel Blakeley and Gemma Blakeley (Dunedin) and Luke Samson (Middle Cove).
Lew was greatly loved by Dawn's children - Lisa Piercey, Jennifer Fraser and Lloyd Piercey, grandchildren - Susannah Piercey, Samantha Piercey (deceased), April Piercey, Charlotte Piercey and great grand-children - Dakota Piercey, Lucas Lowe, Elliott O'Dell and Anna O'Dell.
Lew was predeceased by his parents Vera and Chesley Samson, and brother Vince. He leaves behind his sister Jane Dillon.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Country Haven Funeral Home in Corner Brook.
In memory of Lew flowers will be gratefully accepted or a donation can be made to the Heart & Stroke foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca
Cremation has taken place, internment will follow at a later date.
