Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Capt. (Ret'd) Lawrence "Larry" Francis Clarke C.D., C.M. announce his peaceful passing at the age of 70 years, on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 at the Corner Brook Palliative Care Center, with his loving family by his side. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who enjoyed life to the fullest. He leaves to mourn with loving memories, his beautiful wife of 47 years: Debbie, whom he loved dearly; their devoted sons: Darren (Deanna), and David; his cherished grandsons: Logan and Evan; and his sister: Karen Neil (Bob); as well as a large circle of extended relatives, friends, coworkers, and fellow service veterans.

Larry is predeceased by his parents: Edward "Ned" and Sophia Clarke.

As a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for the past 15 years, Larry held the positions of 2nd Vice President and Branch Service Officer for the Corner Brook Legion Branch 13. During this time, he was privileged to uphold the honor and integrity of veteran service through representation at fundraisers, school assemblies, parades, conferences, and memorial services.

After a long career with NL Power, Larry spent his retirement days fostering a generous community spirit. You would likely find him at Marble Mountain on any given winter day. As a Level 2 ski instructor, an EL Ski Coach, and a Level 1 CADS instructor; he loved sharing his passion for skiing and teaching others. In the summer and fall, he would lead cruise ship passengers through the scenic walking and hiking trails of Corner Brook, and share the history of our beautiful Bay of Islands. Always willing to help, over the years, you may have also seen him volunteering his time for local charities and organizations.

Above all, Larry loved creating memories with family and friends. He and Debbie enjoyed the beaches of Cuba in the spring and sitting by the campfire with friends at their trailer in No Name Brook during the summer. He also treasured spending time with his sons and grandsons. He considered Darren, Logan, Evan his quad and hunting buddies and cherished his time with them at the trailer, and in the woods, and at their cabin in Taylor's Brook. David was his cherished ski buddy, and together they made some incredible memories of skiing on the slopes of Austria and our very own, Marble Mountain.

At Larry's request, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation taking place on Sunday, December 1st, 2024 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 2-4 PM, and 7-9 PM from where the funeral service will take place at 10 AM on Monday, December 2nd, 2024 at the All Hallows Parish, Corner Brook, with Father Edward Terry officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Larry's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 13-Poppy Trust Fund.
