Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce that on July 10, 2025, John Raymond Langer peacefully passed away, surrounded by his loving family at the Corner Brook Long Term Care, in his 87th year.  John, born on August 21, 1937, lived a very full life in Corner Brook with the love of his life, Glenda (Howell). Their 66 years of marriage was a true inspiration to their four children: Shawn (Krista), Sharon, Sandra (Peter) and Cindy (Frazer); eight grandchildren: Krista, Jamie, Alicia, Jonathan, Riley, Brady, Megan and Katie; and four great grandchildren: Benjamin, Felicity, Maci and Bree.

John leaves behind his sister: Gladys (Garfield) Elliott; and in-laws: Joan Langer, Linda Langer, Francis Walsh, Dorothy Kennedy and Jean Howell; as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews in the Langer and Howell families, and many friends.

John was predeceased by his parents: Lillian and Raymond Langer; and members of his family; Austin Langer, Robert (Elizabeth) Langer, Edward Langer, Geraldine (William Payne), Dorothy (Leo Parsons), and Olive (Tom Payne); nephew: Robert (Bob) Parsons; niece: Judith (Judy) Parsons; his mother and father-in-law: Claude and Irene Howell; and his in-laws: Woodrow (Eileen), Max (Doris), Jean Jewer (Jim), Ron, and Roy (Pauline).

The most important thing in John's life was his family and he showed that every day with his unconditional love to his beloved wife Glenda, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his large extended family. John also loved the outdoors. Camping with his family was one of the highlights of his life, travelling throughout every nook and cranny in Newfoundland, as well as other places in Atlantic Canada and the Eastern Seaboard; but his most precious days were spent at Shallow Bay campground and beach. John and Glenda had a variety of campers in their lifetime until they graduated to their cherished motor home which was their home away from home for 37 years.

John also loved to go fishing, hiking and cherished many years moose hunting with his father and brothers. John grew up playing a variety of sports from soccer and hockey to baseball and softball and was well known in Corner Brook as a softball coach.  John's greatest claim to fame was probably his snooker, billiards and pool playing abilities and could often be found playing at the Legion with the boys.  John was also a long-time member of the Legion. John was well known around town for smoking a pipe and could often be seen driving his all-time favorite car, the Monte Carlo.

John's family would like to give a special thanks to the caring staff at the Corner Brook Long Term Care during John's short stay there.

Feel free to leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of John Raymond Langer to pay him a tribute.
