John Albert William Evans

It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Albert William Evans announce his sudden passing at the Health Sciences Center, St John’s, NL, on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 at the age of 74 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife and the mother of his children: Kim Smith-Evans; their children: Jonandrew “John” (Victoria Flynn), and Jeramie (Abby Reardon); grandpuppies: Reese, and Scout; sisters: Vicki Evans, and Susan House (Roger); brothers: Reg Evans (Sherry), Colin Evans (Shelley), Bruce Evans (Debbie), and Lloyd Evans (Paulette); special in-law’s: Elsie and Wayne Smith; brother-in-law: Darrell Smith (daughter, Ava); sister-in-law: Tracey Smith (son, Joshua (Ella) Amelia, and Toby); nieces and nephews: Janet House (Jason) & children Sam, and Colby, Jason House (Robyn) & children Madison, and Chloe, Natasha, Chloe, Rachelle Savard (Stephen) & children Evan, Nate, and Ian, Natalie Rideout (Jeremy) & children Brody, and Claire, and Matthew; as well as a large circle of cousins, friends, past coworkers, pool & dart teammates, special neighbours, and his best friend: Wayne Rose (Glenda).

John was predeceased by his loving parents: Albert Evans, and Mary Evans (nee. Rowsell).

John was born on May 2, 1952 in Grand Falls, NL, but grew up in Corner Brook. He had a passion for fast muscle cars, Toyota trucks, mechanic work, and small engine repair. He spent almost 30 years as a professional Fire Fighter with the City of Corner Brook Fire Department. He absolutely loved his career; mainly to serve and protect the people of the community. John even once held the chair person position for the annual toy drive. John loved people and he loved to laugh, smile, and help even more. He also loved spending time at his cabin in Portland Creek Pond. John was a true MacGyver of sorts, and just genuinely such a nice, and kind man. He simply wanted to make people smile! He held many jobs, never fully retiring. His mind and hands were always at work with many projects always on the go. He taught his sons what they needed to know, and he was a great father to them. John’s big old heart failed him in the end, but the love he gave to others was immeasurable. The man – the legend, lives on now through his boys; in their humour, kindness, and love. John, you will be forever loved, and greatly missed.

There will be a visitation taking place for family and friends at Country Haven Funeral Home on Friday, September 4th, 2026 from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM on Saturday, September 5th, 2026 in the Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jocelyn Cook officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, a donation can be made in John’s memory to the Corner Brook Fire Department Annual Toy Drive.
