Jamie Robert
Byrne
March 4, 1976 – January 15, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jamie Robert Byrne at the Health Science Center, St. John's, NL on January 15, 2026, at the age of only 49 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jamie will be lovingly remembered by his spouse: Tanya Elliott; his children: Arianna, Ryan, and Matthew; mother: Laverne; brothers: Joseph, Cyril, and Danny (Lisa); his parents-in-law: George and Edith Gordon, who loved him as their own; as well as his nieces, and nephews; and Dave, Daisy, and Amanda Murrin and their families.
Jamie was predeceased by his father: Leo Byrne; and his best friend: Bowser (Rick). Those who loved Jamie find comfort in imagining him reunited with his dad and Bowser, sharing many stories around a fire and toasting their reunion.
Jamie was a man who found joy in the simple, meaningful things in life. He loved music, particularly listening to jigs and reels on Sunday mornings at the cabin. The cabin was one of his favourite places where he spent countless hours cutting wood, snowmobiling, moose hunting, and enjoying the outdoors.
A true jack of all trades, Jamie could fix or build just about anything. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and was well respected by his colleagues for his skills, work ethic, and reliability.
Jamie was kind, patient, smart, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Known for his warm smile and quick wit. He loved to joke around and brought laughter wherever he went. He also enjoyed trying out new recipes and sharing what he made with those around him.
Above all else, Jamie's family came first. He cherished them deeply and lived his life with their happiness and well-being at the heart of everything he did. He was so proud of Arianna, Ryan, and Matthew's accomplishments and their plans for their futures.
Throughout Jamie's illness, his spouse Tanya Elliott, was his greatest supporter. Together their positive attitudes and faith carried them through the hardest times.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to all of the aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who supported them financially, and emotionally throughout Jamies illness. A special thank you to Cheryl Gordon for her love, support, and guidance during this difficult time.
Sincere gratitude is also extended to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Health Science Center in St. John's for the compassion and care shown and for being Jamie's cheerleaders, especially nurse Katie, and Dr. Jones.
Jamie was known as a son, brother, father, partner, hero, and friend. He will forever be loved, remain forever in our hearts, and will always be deeply missed.
In following Jamie's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal visitation or funeral service at this time. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Jamie's memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
