Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Irving "Irv" Ivany announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland on June 8th, 2022 after a lengthy illness.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his devoted wife of 52 years, Carolyn (nee Gavin); daughters: Angela (Jamie), Suzanne (Craig), and Lisa (Pat); grandchildren: Jordan Temple, Devlin Wareham, and Destiny Wareham; sisters: Minnie Warren, Myrtle Bursey, Sarah Birro (Joe), Diane Ivany (Bill); and brother, Austin Ivany; as well as his in-laws, a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Irving is predeceased by his parents George and Mary Ivany; father and mother-in-law, Allan and Robina Gavin; sister, Maxine Lee; brothers-in-law: Albert Warren, and Don Bursey; sister-in-law, Linda Ivany; and nieces: Holly Evans, and Brenda Richard.

Irving grew up in Corner Brook on Greenings Hill with his parents, brother, and 5 sisters. He moved to Wabush, Labrador in 1966, where he had a 36-year career as a Millwright at Wabush Mines (USWA local 6285). He met the love of his life at the Smokey Mountain Ski Lodge in 1968, and they wed in 1970. During his time in Wabush, he enjoyed playing and coaching hockey, hunting, snowmobiling, spending time with friends, having a game of cards, and telling tall tales. He retired in 2001 and moved with his wife to Pasadena, Newfoundland in 2002. He enjoyed retirement, traveling, and golfing with his wife and friends, Ron and Mona McCarthy.

The family would like to send a thank you to the nurses and doctors of unit 3B for their care during Irving's time of need. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at St. David of Wales Anglican Church in Pasadena from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, from where the funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Cynthia Hanes Turner officiating. An interment will follow at St. David's Anglican Church Cemetery in Pasadena. As expressions of sympathy, there are no flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association or Daffodil Place in Irving's memory.
