Obituary

The world grew a little quieter on February 4, 2026, when Glenn Pennell passed away, a man whose laughter, curiosity and kindness touched people far beyond the place he called home. Glenn had a rare gift for turning strangers into friends and everyday moments into stories worth retelling. Those who knew him will forever remember the warmth he carried and the joy he so freely shared.

Glenn loved to laugh and to make people laugh. He dearly loved Garage Sales, Antiques, Documentaries, Big Mary's, Tim Hortons, Hot Dogs and he had a tremendous sweet tooth but nothing compares to the love Glenn bestowed not only upon his family and friends but to the people and fishermen he met everyday while performing his duties as Harbour Master in Frenchman's Cove.

Glenn loved people. He loved getting to know them, learning their stories, and finding the little threads that connected one life to another. Over the years, he gathered friends from all around the world, each one drawn in by his easy charm, his gentle heart, and his endless supply of silly stories that could brighten even the heaviest day. Making people laugh wasn't just something Glenn did, it was part of who he was.

He has many life-long friends across the globe who too will miss his regular telephone calls and text messages.

He had a deep appreciation for old things, treasures with history and character. Glenn could find meaning in objects others might overlook, just as he found goodness in people wherever he went. His collections, like his friendships, were built with care, curiosity, and a sense of wonder.

Glenn leaves behind his beloved partner of 40 years, Fay McCarthy, who shared his life, his laughter, and countless memories that will continue to shine. He is also mourned by his sisters Eva Hynes, Millie Hackett, Linda McHugh (Carl) and Connie Wiseman (Gerard); his brothers Bill Pennell (Sherri) and Norm Pennell (Tammy); and his aunts Nonie White (Dave), Joanne Vater & Shirley Vater. Glenn will also be dearly missed by his brothers-in-law Wayde McCarthy (Vickie), Robbie McCarthy (Chris), Harold McCarthy, Roy Ward and Pat McCarthy (Lisa) his nieces and nephews Lori Hynes, Marc Hynes, Al Hackett, Tanya Pike, Raeann Betts, Charles Pennell, Sarah Pennell, Kaitlyn Pennell, Nathan Pennell, Heidi Wiseman, Stephen McCarthy, Robert McCarthy, Austin Ward and his goddaughter Melissa Vater and their beautiful families. Also left to grieve are his Best Buds Cory Vater, Dean Macdonald and Todd Stewart who Glenn spoke to on a daily basis sometimes for hours on end.

Waiting to welcome him home are his Parents, Lindburgh and Patricia Pennell; his father and Mother-in-law Jerome and Sadie McCarthy; his Brothers-in-law Allan Hackett and Larry Hynes; his Sister-in-law Martha McCarthy-Ward and many special Aunts, Uncles, family and friends. Knowing he is reunited with them brings comfort to those who loved him.

Though Glenn has left this world, the joy he sparked lives on in the stories told, the friendships he nurtured and the laughter he inspired. His memory will be carried forward with love, gratitude and a smile, just the way he would have wanted.
