Gilbert Walton Melbourne, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on October 8, 2025, at the Calder Health Care Centre, in Burgeo, at the age of 68. Left to mourn with beautiful memories are his wife and best friend of 46 years; Joan. Sons; Ian (Sandra), Adam (Victoria) and his precious grandchildren; Noah, Sarah and Nathan. Gilbert will be forever missed by his brothers; Bill, Gus (Judy), Dan (Joyce), sisters-in-law; Selina, Gloria, Sheila, Dora (Julius), Angela (Dan), brothers-in-law Glenn (Melita), Calvin (Angela) and his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gilb was a linesman with Newfoundland Hydro for 37 years and retired at age 55. Gilb loved his boats and cabin in Bay de Loup and spent many happy days there with his family. He was a member of the Burgeo Cemetery Committee, and a past member of the Burgeo Fire Department and United Church board. He was a sexton (general repairman) for the United Church, completing necessary repairs, cutting grass, and helping out at the bargain place, cutting up many pieces of clothing for rags, so little went to waste and building shelves.

Gilb loved to spend time puttering in his shed, making everything imaginable. He loved wood crafts and his creativity could find the possibility in any piece of wood. He built many boats of all sizes over the years.

Gib is predeceased by his son; Andrew. Parents; Sarah and Gilbert Melbourne. Parents-in-law; George K and Jessie Skinner. Brother; George. Brothers-in-law; Don, Gord and Junior. Sister-in-law; Wanda and nephew Robbie.

Gilb's family expresses profound gratitude to Dr. Mays and the staff of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital and Dr. Bruff, Dr. Smack and the staff of the Calder Health Care Centre in Burgeo for their care and comfort.

Visitation will take place at the Burgeo United Church on Friday October 10, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The memorial service will take place on Saturday October 11, 2025 at 11 AM. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook and the link can be made available via the Facebook group, Funeral for Gilbert Melbourne.
