Obituary

It is with heartfelt gratitude that we thank everyone who helped sustain us during this time of our greatest loss. We thank those who visited, sent donations, flowers, food and cards and spiritual support in Gerald's memory. We thank Country Haven for their professionalism, personal caring, concern and guidance at this difficult time. These acts of kindness will never be forgotten.

It is with great sadness the family of the late Gerald Calvin Willis Eastman announce his passing on July 11th 2024 at the Western Long-term Care, Palliative Unit at the age of 89 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 69 years Olga Eastman (Bartlett). His children (and their spouses); Darryl (Donna), Sean (Dorothy), Paul, Brent (Niki). His grandchildren (and their spouses); Maria (Dwayne), Adam (Stephanie), Angela (Ronald), Nicholas (Gillian), Leanne (Adam), Joshua (Jessica), Jordan, Jenna, Brandon (Kyle), Brandi, Ryder, Hailey, Kaleb, Brayden. Great-grandchildren: Theodore and Lucy. Nieces and Nephews; Derek Lidstone (Doreen), Kerry Reid (Marilyn), Carol Callahan (Robert), Mark Reid (Donna), Gerald Penney, Donald Bartlett (Tana), Allan Bartlett (Patti), and Brenda Bartlett. Brothers and sisters-in-law; Allan Bartlett (Joyce), Glenn Granter (Edith). Close special friends; Norman Young (Gerri).

He is pre-deceased by his parents; Willis and Mary Eastman (nee French). Mother and Father-in-law; C.H. (Bert) Bartlett and Enid Bartlett (nee Willar). Brothers and sisters (and their spouses); Lydia Penney (Cecil), Ruby Lidstone (Ernest), Edna Reid (Clifford).

Also, leaving to mourn a large circle of many other family members, and many friends.

Gerald was a graduate of Corner Brook Public School and continued on to become a machinist through the Bowater vocational training program and worked his full career with the paper mill in Corner Brook. Gerald led an active life, holding several offices in his IAM Union through his career, was President of the Bowater bowling league for many years and held executive positions with the Brook Street Credit Society which was a predecessor to the present-day credit union. He also was a life time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the West Mount Club.

There will be a visitation held at Country Haven Funeral Home on Tuesday July 16th 2024 from the hours of 2-4PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 17th 2024 at 2PM in the Country Haven Chapel with Rev. Mickton officiating.
