Florence Lovelet
Locke
December 12, 1938 – May 7, 2021
Our hearts are saddened as we the family announce the passing of our beloved mom, Florence "Flossy" Locke (Young) on Friday May 7, 2021 in her 82 yr. She passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook NL with her loving Sister Myra and nieces Delphine and Barb by her side.
She leaves to mourn her husband James and her children Cindy, Lana (Joe) and David. Her grandchildren Chantal (Colan) and Randal (Brynda) and great-grandchildren Ana-Rey, Marcus, Ben and Cohen. Her sisters Emma, Myra (Joe), and Cora. Also, a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers Roy, Rex, Edwin and Maxwell, sisters Ruby, Margaret, parents George and Frances.
She retired after 22 years from The College of the North Atlantic where she managed the cafeteria/food services, she was loved by all the students and the people who worked with her. She was a kind-hearted woman, a loving mother and wife and grandmother and spent her life looking after others. She lived her life without complaint even after a long history of liver disease and debilitating sciatica pain for the past 4 years. She never lost her sense of humour and had the funniest zingers; she was sweet with a side of zest.
She was a fabulous cook and baker, famous for her cabbage rolls, fishcakes, pea soup, Jiggs dinner, homemade bread and desserts. She had a sweet tooth and had bars hidden in the drawers at home, baked goods in the fridge, freezer, and cupboards. When she could not finish her supper, she always had room for dessert.
She loved her girl's weekends with her sisters and nieces travelling to different parts of the province. They would play cards, tell stories, laugh until it hurt and eat way too much.
Her favourite outdoor activity was looking after her garden. She took great pride in all her flowers and plants and whenever we came home in the summer, she loved to take us out and show off her garden. It gave her a sense of serenity and inner peace.
We will miss her spunky spirit, her beautiful smile and kind nature, she truly brought an immense amount of joy and laughter into our world and we will miss her dearly.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the family members who spent time with her while in hospital, restorative care, long term care and finally palliative care. While in Palliative care her son, David was by her side every day and her sister Myra, nieces Delphine and Barb spent days and nights with her. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Palliative care unit and Mountain View Nursing home who took amazing care of her.
"Even when I am gone from your sight, I am never gone from your heart. We live in the heart of one another for eternity. Our love runs deep, that is why it hurts so much for so long when we have to say goodbye. Love runs so deep that nothing can touch it, not even death."
At Florence's request, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal visitation or funeral service at this time, to be announced at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, there are no flowers by request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one's choice.
