It is with great sadness that the family of the late Effie Mae Mews (nee. Canning) announce her passing at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Center on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the age of 83 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her devoted husband of 68 years: Henry Mews; their children: Donald Mews (Kate), Annie Simmonds (Adrian), Oral Mews, and Angie Batstone (Peter); grandchildren: Jennifer, Amanda, Liam, Callum, Jeffrey, Samantha, Adam, and Jordan; great-grandchildren: Vi, Nick, Joshua, Megan, Colby, and Sawyer; brother and sisters: Edward Canning (Daphne), Lavina Day (Otto), and Geralda Canning; brother-in-law: David Etsell; and special niece: Tonya Freake; as well as a large circle of other nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many friends.

Effie was predeceased by her parents: Gordon and Dulcie Canning; and siblings: Eli Canning, Ethel Canning, Goldie Etsell, and Joyce Spurrell.

Effie enjoyed crafting, quilting, berry picking, and most of all; being with her loving family. She was known for her good, hardy laugh.

In following Effie's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal visitation or funeral service at this time. Interment to take place at a later date.
