Edna Loretta
Brake
October 5, 1940 – August 16, 2023
It is with heavy hearts, profound sadness and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Edna Loretta Brake (nee Jones) on August 16, 2023 in the loving embrace of family at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook.
Edna was the beloved wife of Alva, loving mother of Kim, Dave (Heather), Vicki (David) and proud grandmother of Katie, Evan, Lucy and Grant, all of whom will continue to hold her in their hearts. Also left behind, with the fondest of memories, are sisters Phyllis Smith, Evelyn Wade (Marlen), and Allison Eddy (Ross); sister-in-law Olive Beattie (Doug); brother-in-law John Brake (Thelma) plus countless friends.
She was born in Trinity East, NL, the second youngest in a large family of eight children. She moved with her family to Corner Brook when she was quite young and went on to spend the rest of her life there. After training as a secretary, she held many different jobs over the years including working for CBC Corner Brook, Hann Brothers, Simpsons-Sears and then many years with the Department of Radiology at Western Memorial Hospital.
She lived a happy life and derived great pleasure in simple things like taking long brisk walks, Sunday drives, baking, music, Christmas, travel and lots of laughter. She was happiest, however, when surrounded by people and found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and, of course, her beloved Alvie.
Edna had an easy way with people and could make friends effortlessly. Her special gift for connecting with people and making everyone feel special meant that her phone was constantly ringing and there was always a steady flow of visitors at the house.
Although her loss is immeasurable, she leaves behind endless memories in all that knew her and these wonderful memories will ensure that she will live forever in our hearts.
There were numerous individuals who selflessly offered their talents, skills and kindness in these recent and difficult months. We would like recognize and thank the doctors and nurses of the Chemo Unit, E.R. and Palliative Care team as well as family physician Dr Julia O'Connor and numerous others who helped us.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home on Friday August 18th, 2023 from the hours 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and 7:00 to 9:00 pm from where there will be a private funeral service that will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 19th at 11:00am with Rev Mickton officiating, interment to take place at a later date
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation either to St. Michael's Anglican Church in Corner Brook or to NL West SPCA.
