Obituary

The family of Earl Donald Roberts, age 75, of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, is saddened to announce his peaceful passing on August 12, 2026, at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Centre.

Born in Twillingate on February 6, 1951, Earl was the eldest son of Hector and Lillian (Anstey) Roberts. He spent his childhood exploring the outdoors, playing hockey, and enjoying life in Twillingate before moving with his family to Corner Brook. He attended Herdman Collegiate and later Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he earned his degree in Education while continuing his love of sport. On June 17, 1972, Earl married Barbara Isaacs. Together they built a life raising their two children, Julie and Ryan.

Earl spent his career doing what he loved most: teaching, coaching, and encouraging young people. As a physical education teacher at Templeton Academy and later at C.C. Loughlin Elementary School, he believed every child belonged somewhere and for many students that place was his gymnasium. Long after retirement, former students would stop him to share a memory or simply to say, “Hi, Mr. Roberts,” a testament to the lasting impact he had on so many lives. When he wasn't teaching, Earl could usually be found outdoors. Newfoundland's rivers, woods, and trails were his happy place. He was a passionate salmon angler, an accomplished salmon fly tyer, a cross-country skier, and a hiker who never lost his appreciation for the natural beauty around him. He was one of the original members of the Blow-Me-Down Cross Country Ski Club and enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with family, friends, and the many young athletes he coached over the years.

Above all else, Earl was a devoted grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara; his children Julie (Matthew) and Ryan; his cherished grandchildren, Alice and Suzy Roebotham; his sister Elaine Sterling; his brother Harvey Roberts; and the many family members, friends, students, and outdoor companions whose lives he touched.

He was predeceased by his parents, Hector and Lillian Roberts, and his sister Doreen Roberts.

Visitation will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home in Corner Brook, NL on Monday August 17th 2026 from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Corner Brook SPCA, a cause close to their hearts.
