It is with great sadness that the family of the late Donald Garfield Locke announces his passing at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
A man of God, a devout Salvationist who demonstrated tremendous faith was Promoted to Glory and welcomed into his heavenly home after decades of trusting and serving his Lord.
Don was predeceased by wife of 64 years: Shirley (2020); parents: John and Minnie Pearl Locke; siblings: Myrtle Cluett (Everett), Rowella Layden (Granville), Maxwell (Millie), Clayton, Ellis, Otto (Olga), Wallace (Jane), Eric, Dorman (Ella) Locke, and Rita Locke; in-laws: Andrew and Sarah Winnie Wall, Edna Wells (Joseph), Phillip Wall, Edward Walle, and Sandy Wall; and his nephews: Dexter Wells, and Tony Wall.
He leaves to mourn with cherished memories, his children: Gary (Frances), and Terry (Brenda); grandchildren: Jamie Locke (Elaine), Sarah Collins (Steven), Sarah Rideout (Ryan); and great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Grace and Patience Locke, Sadie and Henry Collins, and Emily and Conor Rideout; his siblings: John Locke, and Verna Roberts; and his in-laws: Lucy (Donald) Dumont, Shirley Wall, Mabel Walle, and Dora Wall; as well as his many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Throughout his career, Donald was a respected businessman who worked with Lundrigan's Building Supplies, Atlantic Building Materials, and in the fields of estate and financial planning. He also worked with Blue Cross before establishing his own successful business, Donald Locke and Associates.
Donald faithfully served at The Salvation Army Corner Brook Temple Corps in many capacities throughout his life, including as a Sunday School teacher, Assistant Young People's Sergeant Major, and both a member and executive member of the Men's Fellowship Club. He was also an active participant in Men's Bible Study. Despite 57 years of dedicated service as a bandsman, Donald humbly referred to himself as a "seat warmer", never fully recognizing the impact of his contributions to the band and the church community. Those who knew him understood the value of his faithful service, quiet dedication, and unwavering commitment.
Donald's commitment to serving others extended beyond his church, as he was an active member of Rotary, proudly served with the RCMP Auxiliary and served as a member of the Mount Patricia Cemetery committee for many years.
In addition to his dedication to the church and community, Donald led an active and spirited life. In his younger years, he participated in a variety of sports, including boxing, broomball, hockey, softball and track and field, where he enjoyed pole vaulting. His love of sports continued throughout his life, and he remained an avid bowler well into his late eighties.
During the past six years, Donald resided at Westmount Estates, where he was warmly embraced and became a valued and respected member of that community. The family is deeply grateful for the love, compassion and exceptional care shown to Donald by the wonderful staff, whom he held in the highest regard.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Emergency Department, 4C Surgery and Palliative Care of WMRH for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to their father and the family during his brief hospitalization.
In following Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation taking place for family and friends at Country Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026 from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, from where the funeral service will take place at 2 PM on Thursday, October 15th, 2026 at The Salvation Army Corner Brook Community Church, O’Connell Drive, with Major Brian Wheeler officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Donald's memory may be made to The Salvation Army Corner Brook Community Church or to the charity of your choice.
“Well done. thou good and faithful servant”.
