It is with much sadness that the family of the late Don Hiscock announce his passing on March 12, 2025 at the Western Long-Term Palliative Care Unit, at the age of 94. Don leaves to mourn his beloved wife: Florence (nee Dower); his sons Keith (Shawn), and Paul (Darlene); his grandsons: Andrew (Heather), Adam (Julianna) and Hunter; his step-family: Edith, Adam, Eamon, Lucy, Finn and Levi; great-grandchildren Emerson, Hailey, and Alfundo; and his siblings: Carl, and Marina; as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, his life long friends; especially Melvin and Roz Mercer. To his friends and family, he was a constant.
Don was predeceased by his parents: William and Effie (nee. Hounsell) Hiscock; and his sisters: Madge (Wiff McLennon), and Joan Hiscock.
Don made Corner Brook smile. He kept the child within him alive. He saw that magic was possible. He was a wonderful, loving husband to Florence. He taught his sons to be compassionate and non judgemental and gave them permission to be sensitive. Don was a hard worker and always there for his family. For over 20 years he delivered newspapers for the Western Star and then the Humber Log making over 100 stops a day. He started up Don's Driving School and for 25 years, with patience (and a little humour) he taught young people and then their children how to be good drivers. "Always check your shoulder" he would say. But for most of Corner Brook, for almost 50 years, he was the clown in the Santa Claus Parade where the crowds gave him as much pleasure as he gave them.
We wish to offer a very special thank you to Dr. Lafferty, as well as the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their loving support and care offered to Don. Also, to nurses: Alison, Diana, and Chantel, for making him feel like part of their family.
There will be a visitation taking place at Country Haven Funeral Home on Saturday, March 15th, 2025 from the hours of 1-3 PM, from where the funeral service will take place in the Country Haven Chapel at 3 PM with Rev. Mickton officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment to take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted, or a donation to the Salvation Army Church can be made in Don's memory.
