CARD OF THANKS

"The Smith family would like to thank all those who helped in any way as we celebrated the life of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  The tremendous amount of love and support received through food, flowers, donations, messages and sharing of stories allowed our family to feel blessed and honoured even through the veil of covid.  Our Dad/Pop was loved by so many.  Your condolences, thoughts and prayers are sincerely appreciated, Thank You."

The Late David Smith

With fond and loving memories, the Smith family would like to announce the passing of David Smith of Battle Harbour, Labrador at the age of 90 years. He passed away peacefully in the presence of family on March 13, 2021, in Corner Brook where he has resided since 1955.

When Dave left Battle Harbour he travelled and tried many jobs before settling into a 30-year career with the railway where he retired as an engineer in 1988. His energetic style and sense of humour caught the eye of Julie his wife and lifelong love. Dave was always up for a bit of fun and a great game of scat. As a storyteller and entertainer, he loved to spin a good yarn, tell a joke or dress up for an impromptu show. Dave also had a very strong faith and giving heart, he loved going to church and helping all those in need around him.

Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Julia, parents:  Leah Smith and David Kelloway, his grandparents who raised him:  Catherine Howell and George Smith and most of his large immediate family. He is survived by his brother David Kelloway and sisters Merrill and Agnes, his sons: Derek, Keith, and Terry (Tina), his daughters; Lorraine Cardwell, Lisa (Dwight) Saunders, his grandchildren Rikki (Paul) Boland, Danielle (Kenny) Maher, Ashley Smith, Heather (Rob) Fulton, Jerry (Grace) Cardwell, Adam, Ryan, and Kyle Saunders and great-grandchildren; Sylus, Lydon, Kennedy, Gee, JM, Logan, Kegan, and Kasey and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Due to Covid 19 health restrictions a private family viewing on March 16, 2021, will be held at 1 pm and from where the funeral service will take place at 2 pm from Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel with The Very Rev. Catherine Short officiating and interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.  As expressions of sympathy, there are no flowers by request, in lieu of flowers donations in memory of David Smith can be made to the Children's Wish Foundation.  The family guestbook for signing condolences is available by visiting www.country-haven.ca
