It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, David Richard McCarthy, on September 12, 2026, at the age of 78. David was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his daughters: Donna (Vaughan), Lori Anne, and Shelly. He will be deeply missed by his brothers: Kevin (Marlene), Larry (Joyce), and Lloyd; and his sisters: Cassie, Veronica (Nonie), Judy (Aaron), and Marie. David leaves to mourn his grandchildren: Cody (Shauna), Karla (Quinn), Silver (Nathan), Georgia (Donald), and Hannah; his great-grandchildren: Alex, and Sawyer-James; the mothers of his children: Anne Marie and Gloria; his close friends Enos and Hodge (George) Vaters; along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents: Benedict and Jessie McCarthy; his brother: Raymond; his grandson: Alex McCarthy; and brothers-in-law: Ronald Prosper, and Kevin Bourgeois.
David had a number of different careers throughout his life, but one of the things he loved most was fishing. He especially enjoyed his time on the water fishing with Scott and Sam Anderson, making memories that will be cherished. David had a soft heart, and he cared deeply about the people he loved. He will be remembered for his own unique way of being, the stories he shared, the people he loved, and the memories he leaves behind. David leaves behind a family who will carry his memory with them and who will miss him dearly.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU and the Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate and exceptional care they provided to our father during his final days.
In following David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation taking place for family and friends at Country Haven Funeral Home on Monday, September 14th, 2026 from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Interment to take place at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026 at the Old Roman Catholic Cemetery, Benoit’s Cove. As expressions of sympathy, a donation can be made in David’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
Rest peacefully, Dad.
You will always be loved. ❤️
