Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clifford Lyle Earle. There is an old saying that you can always tell the Newfoundlanders in heaven because they're the ones who want to go home. Skipper Earle, though not a native of Newfoundland and Labrador, grew to love and know this place as good as any man who ever trotted her bogs and walked her barrens.

Born in Toronto, Clifford grew up in Cox's Cove with his parents, William and Elizabeth Earle and his sister Ula. He began his career working for the American Base in Stephenville. He later spent 37 years with Lundrigan's Ltd, ending his career as Superintendent of Road Works. Notable achievements include working on the Churchill Falls Power Project as general foreman of the dikes and assisting in the supervision and development of the Trans-Canada Highway significantly altering the way Newfoundland and Labrador people interacted with the rest of the world, connecting communities across the province with Canada.

While travelling Newfoundland's unspoiled wilderness, Clifford became a proficient outdoorsman. Angling, hunting, and trapping were his specialties, and by the age of 90, he had developed a comprehensive knowledge of these disciplines. His leisure time was spent at his cabin on Blue Jay Hill in George's Lake with his late wife, Flora Earle, where he could often be found cutting wood, picking berries or snaring rabbits.

Clifford leaves to mourn with fond memories of his daughter Michelle Earle-Beaubien (Keith), granddaughters Allison Lockyer (Alex) and Alexa-Rae Beaubien, great-grandchildren Elena and Robert Lockyer; along with other relatives and friends. A special thank you to cousin Carolyn Hann for her ongoing support and visitation to Dad for the past two years.

There will be a private family viewing on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel and interment at Mount Patricia Cemetery on Thursday, February 18, 2021, officiated by  Rev. Edward King. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Clifford Earle can be made to the WMRH Foundation. A special thank you to the staff at Mountainview Estates for the compassion and help during his stay; Western Health staff to include the Paramedics, Emergency Department, Restorative Care, Medicine and Surgery Staff, Palliative Care Staff and his family doctor, Dr. Nagy Bolous.
