Claude
Grimes
November 9, 1948 – September 20, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Claude Grimes announce his passing on September 20th, 2022, at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook, NL at the age of 73 years. Leaving to mourn with the fondest of memories, his loving wife of 51 years, Bonnie Grimes (Oxford), his son Trevor Grimes (Lisa), his precious grandchildren Robert, Brianna, Brandon, Markus and Mollie; and two furry friends Lexie and Champ, his brothers Ted (Beatrice), Alvin (Mary), sisters Jeanette Follow (Eric), Margaret Locke, sisters-in-law Gail Grimes, Ruth Roberts and brother in law Max Oxford; as well as a very large circle of family, friends and loved ones.
Claude is predeceased by his parents Orison and Olive Grimes, brother Harvey Grimes, sister Cedille Manuel, mother and father-in-law Violet and Lemuel Oxford, and brothers-in-law Roy Locke and Irven Manuel.
Claude was born in Little Bay Islands on November 9, 1948, to Orison and Olive Grimes. He was the middle of seven children. His mother passed away when he was just a boy, after which the siblings became a very close-knit family, always looking out for each other. He met the love of his life, Bonnie Oxford, who he truly adored, when they were just teenagers. They married on October 9, 1970 and have been blessed with over 51 wonderful years together. They had one son, Trevor, who was Claude's world. Claude was loved by everyone he met; and as any that knew Claude, he loved to chat, therefore; everyone he met got to know everything about him right away. He was a very caring man and would do anything for anyone if it meant that he could help. He was well known for his love of music, playing guitar, singing with family and friends, and of course telling a few jokes and stories along the way. Claude was a hardworking man and spent most of his career on the water, where he loved to be, whether it be fishing or working on the ferry. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; and will be sadly missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the extensive medical team that worked with Claude during his recent difficult journey, including the amazing teams at the Cancer Units in Eastern and Western Health, as well as the medical staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit. Your care, kindness, and compassion for our family will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Country Haven Funeral Home from 7 – 9 pm, from where a funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Country Haven Chapel at 10:30 am with Major Lindsay Oxford officiating. Interment to immediately follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Flowers are graciously accepted, or a donation can be made to the Children's Janeway Hospital in Claude's memory.
Forever in our hearts!
