Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Clarence Joshua Rice announces his passing at the Western Long Term Care Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the age of 76 years.  Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife Joan (nee Hinks) of 54 years; his daughter, Dawn (Rice) Heffernan (Kelly); son, Darren (Lisa). Precious grandchildren: Nicholas, Sarah, Katie, Erika, Ricki, Scottie.  Great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Carter.   His sister: Doris Gosse, Marie Cole, Phyllis (Frank Bailey), brother: Jim (Joan); brother in law Clarence Hinks, Bernie Hinks (Jackie), Todd Hinks (Ericka); sister in law Shirley Hinks (Chris Upshall), Gertie Hinks (Bruce Tilley), Lavern White. He was predeceased by his parents Elsie (Reid) and William Rice, father in law Hughie Hinks and mother in law Alice (Kennedy) Hinks; brother-in-laws Bill Gosse, Boyd Cole, Carl White; sister in law Pamela (Hinks) Goudie.  In his earlier years he loved to go fishing with his father in law Hughie Hinks. He always had a real interest in video and photography from 8mm to the digital camera. Thanks to him we are left with many memories and moments he captured for us. He was an avid bird watcher - he kept the feeders topped up and he was convinced the same blue jay and woodpecker revisited him many times. He started his career in Labrador at the IOC, he then started a career with CN as a telegraph operator in Wesleyville, NL, and then transferred to Port aux Basques, NL. He then moved to Dept of Motor Vehicle Registration in Corner Brook for a number of years while there he got involved in the union and then ended up as an employee relations officer with Nape for the Western Region of NL where he retired from after 31 years. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, cremation has taken place.  There will be no formal visitation or funeral at this time.  Interment to take place at a later date.  As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or memorials donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
