It is with great sadness that the family of the late Catherine Joan Hartley announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 7th, 2026 at the age of 77 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 55 years: Joseph Hartley; daughters: Tara Hartley (Curtis Murphy), and Carla Hartley-Pittman (Justin Pittman); grandchildren: Kennedy Lush (Tim Madden), Olivia Murphy, Billie Pittman, and Georgia Pittman; great-grandson: Thomas Madden; brother: Donald Butler (niece and nephew: Kathryn and Steven Butler); brothers and sisters-in-law: Leo Hartley, Edward & Theresa Hartley, Isabelle Hartley, Suzan Hartley, Sharon Hartley, and Marina Hartley; and special friends: Francis Skinner, and Regina Staples; as well as a large circle of other relatives, nieces, and nephews, and many friends; especially her colleagues and friends from Newfoundland and Labrador Housing, where she worked for 35 years.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents: Bertram and Geraldine Butler; parents-in-law: James and Edna Hartley; brothers and sisters-in-law: Margaret Barry, Thomas Hartley, Helen Hartley, James Hartley, Gerald Hartley, Richard Hartley, and Marie Hutchings.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation for family and friends taking place at Country Haven Funeral Home on Monday, May 11th, 2026 from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. There will be no funeral service at this time. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Catherine’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses who have treated Catherine over past year. Especially the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Corner Brook Cancer Center and of the WMRH-5D unit who looked after Catherine during her final week. As well, a special thank you to Father Terry for visiting Catherine in the hospital.
