Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bernard White announce his passing at The Health Sciences Centre in St. John's,  on Monday, May 3, 2021, at the age of 78 years old. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories of his wife of 57 years Leona (MacDonald) White. His children, Edward (Phyllis), Christina Park (Floyd), Pamela Joy (Wade), Diane, Karen (Roger), Mandy (Darrell); his grandchildren, Julia (Byron), Brittany (Garrett), Sheri Lynn (Matt), Shawn (Courtney), Jessica (Mike), Valerie (William), his special boy Nick, Steven; his great-grandchildren, his special girl Shelby, his special girl Marissah; his special boys Landon, R. J. & Brantly, Wyatt, Gracie, William, Mya, Noah, Ethan, Paige, Sophie, Owen, Hunter, Nash, Emersyn; his brothers, William, Murdock (Marie), John (Denise); his sisters, Cecilia Gallant (Guy), Christina Marschler (Harry), Olive White; his brother in laws, Cecil MacDonald (Eleanor), Alex MacDonald (Patsy), Lawrence MacDonald (Tammy), Darrell MacDonald (Lori), Reginald MacDonald (Daphne); his sister in laws, Rose White, Sandra Hunt (Paul), Juanita Williams (Cliff), Joanne Henderson (Scott), Betty McCleod (Dale), Kathleen Squires (Ken), Stella Parsons (Garwin); his special friend Howard Parsons & a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.  He will be especially missed by his co-members of Qalipu First Nations and the Humber Arm South Council. Bernard was predeceased by his parents Murdock & Julia White; his parents in law Edward and Pheobe MacDonald; his brothers Edward & Ron White; his sister Bernice Green; his brothers-in-law, Gorman Green, Edward White, Roger MacDonald; his sisters-in-law, Nell White, May Tucker.

The most important thing to Bern was his family and he showed that every day with his unconditional love to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. He had many friends who he cherished and was always there to lend a helping hand. He served on the Humber Arm South Council for three years. He became a huge pillar in his community, Benoit's Cove, and was respected by everyone who knew him. Bern served four terms as the Benoit's Cove ward councillor for Qalipu First Nations and was an enormous help in the enrollment process for many individuals. He had such an amazing amount of knowledge of indigenous ancestry and culture. Overall, Bern was a person who was loved by all and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Due to Covid-19 health restrictions, a private family viewing will take place on Thursday, May 6th. 2021, at Country Haven Funeral Home. Cremation to follow and the funeral service and interment will take place at a later date which will be limited to close family and friends.
